Salewa's Rapace is a serious light mountaineering boot. Offering a fairly rigid nylon/27% fiberglass shank to eat up the steep slopes and a perfect rocker to provide smooth walking on the approach, paired with a Bilight midsole, the boot offers technical prowess and legitimate comfort. The Vibram WTC outsole self cleans quickly and offers exceptional traction on off-camber slopes. Plus, these are a game changer when it comes to weight, tipping the scales at just 680 grams (less than 25 ounces).
This boot is highly suited to warm weather hunts, think Wyoming High Country deer, Desert Sheep, Coues' Deer, Idaho early elk season, and Utah and Colorado early season deer hunts and similar. No more swampy feet in sloppy fitting boots. These are our go-to when we are running light in steep country.
With climbing lacing running all the way to the toe and a solid lace lock, you can custom tailer your lacing to meet your specific needs. The multi-fit footbed encourages better fit than most boots we have found. As a mountaineering boot, we have not found one to fit so many different feet as the Salewa product; it's a solid bargain, especially now that they are made in Europe.
